PROJECT INFO

"We all are so similar in how different we are from each other." This quote makes reference to our individual/collective balance, where there can't be one without the other. Fabian is working on a series of drawings that he calls "Pandemic Fables" making reference to the times we live in now. That idea itself came from an older series of his called "Radical Altruism" that talks about social movements and how our thinking processes as individual human beings develops. Fabian Monge has created a collection of illustrated scenes of the "Pandemic Fables", that talks about art and human connection.

COSTA RICA | PAINTER

As an artist, Fabian Monge is an explorer; as a human being, he’s an artist; as an animal, he realizes that communication is very important; as a citizen he has strong opinions; as a painter, he likes to allure the eyes of the audience; as a scientist he loves to make the best questions; as a brother, he used to be rude; as a selfish gene, he wants to live forever.

My goal for this residency, among other goals in response to the Covid-19 crisis, is to create a space for people to recognize themselves as part of the human way of thinking, to help them visualize that link that binds us together.

Pandemic Fables

I have been working on a series of drawings that I call __"Pandemic Fables"__ making reference to the times we live now. That idea itself came from an older series of mine I called __"Radical Altruism"__ that talks about social movements and how our thinking processes as individual human beings develops. I'm aiming to make an ilustrated book of the "Pandemic Fables", that talks about art and human connection

The Process: Fabian Monge

I’m so grateful because now I’m more aware of these virtual tools as great windows to global ideas, characters and points of view. If there is something good that can happen because of the pandemic, maybe it is this renewed will of individual artists to connect with markets, investigations and collaborations at a global level in a more direct way.

Sometimes art can be very political and for that matter it can be too regional instead of universal.

For me the greatest part of this residency was to realize: that more artists than I thought are immersed in universal discussions and thinking. I used to think that these explorations are kind of romantic and in some ways ´cliche´. Looking at the great works the artists presented in CO-RESIDENCY, the quality and clarity of their ideas, makes me put more wood on my artistic fire, and that's HUGE.
