Project Description
Pedro Fraguela's work is focused on memory, time perception and the physical mechanics involved in musical performance. This current piece is the fifth delivery of his series called "Música para Superficies" -Music for Surfaces in English- and it's inspired in the idea of touch and affection, and how physical contact is transformed in these pandemic times. With the aim of developing the piece three axis were investigated: choreography, sound intervention, and the way to integrate them through technology. The output of this process was the creation of a short film registering the performance, and an ambient sound art album as a side project.

...the idea of affection and touch made me reflect on my own feelings during lockdown, the unstability of my emotional state, and the distance that separeted me from my loved ones.
"...the idea of affection and touch made me reflect on my own feelings during lockdown, the unstability of my emotional state, and the distance that separeted me from my loved ones.
In this way the project ended up reflecting more on the way I've dealt with loneliness and these hard times. Looking deep inside in my emotions made me feel more connected.
There is nothing that I've been gone through during these past few months that wasn't shared by friends and family. The anxiety, uncertainty, and erratic emotions.
We live in a vulnerable world, everything is changing. I believe this is a moment we must use to try to strengthen our bonds and make an effort to recover our sense of community.
As an individual I experienced moments during lockdown that were closed to desperation and others that made me reconnect with myself. I wanted to reflect on this ambiguity in my music.
As a side project an album of ambient music was created based in the sound materials used for the performance. It's an album of a single track one hour long, that tries to reflect a tense meditative state.
This music can be used to listen from beggining to end as a regular album, and as a real ambient track that allows the listener to come in and out from sound.
The main output of the project saw a transformation as well. Due to the imposibility to present a sound performance in a live concert a video component took the spotlight to make a way to present my work online.
The result is a short video performance recording the live piece, but with a curated approach.
The reflections and feelings recolected during the creative process that went through Co-Residency will not end here.
Another long duration ambient soundtrack is on the way, and Music for Surfaces is an evergrowing platform that will keep on investigating these topic and issues."
